On the 22nd of November, the CompEng and SubSurf students were invited by the CompEng/SubSurf support team to a bowling evening in Bochum. On six different lanes the 33 students, and a part of the CompEng/SubSurf team, were able to test their bowling skills and give their best at throwing strikes.
On 5th of October, the Welcome Day for the new SubSurf students of the winter semester 2023/2024 took place.

The Chair of Soil Mechanics, Foundation Engineering and Environmental Geotechnics organized an excursion to the opencast mine Hambach on 25 July. In addition to the students of the Subsurface Engineering programme, some Master's students of Civil Engineering took part, as well as doctoral students of the chair.
Last week it was time to put on safety shoes, high-visibility waistcoats and helmets and head off to the construction site. The Chair of Soil Mechanics, Foundation Engineering and Environmental Geotechnics organised an excursion for the Subsurface Engineering students to two construction sites in Bonn and Monheim am Rhein.

To conclude their very first semester the Subsurface Engineering students went on a field trip in the Eifel region. As part of a compulsory module, such excursions are an integral part of the SubSurf curriculum. The Eifel is a low mountain range in North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate. It extends further into Belgium and Luxembourg in the Ardennes. Geologically, the region is best known for its volcanism and how it shaped the landscape.
