In order to apply for the international master’s course Subsurface Engineering at Ruhr-University Bochum, candidates must submit an application via our online application system. The application process is completely online, which means that you do not have to submit any documents by post.

Students who apply for the Master of Science programme must have a Bachelor (or comparable) degree in either
Applicants who already hold a master's degree are only admitted to a limited extend. Please also note that grades from passed and completed diploma or master's courses will no longer be recognised. Only courses that are officially certified and have not yet been used for a degree can be recognised upon application after review by the Examination Committee.
If you have not finished your qualifying bachelor’s (or comparable) degree yet, please apply with your current transcript of records and estimate the end of your study.
Certificate and official transcript of records stating the average grade of the completed Bachelor's degree programme and corresponding module descriptions (syllabus) in English or German. If no information about your local grading system is included on your transcript of records, please provide additional information.
Proof of English language skills (one of the following documents):
As proof of your secondary school leaving certificate and your entrance qualification for your first academic degree.
If available: Please also include your pre-university certificate.
Please submit a curriculum vitae in tabular form.
A personal statement describing your motivation to apply for the programme (max. 2 pages). For example, tell us what you are particularly interested in about the degree programme or in which areas you already have knowledge.
At least two letters of recommandation from lecturers of your previous Bachelor programme.

Please upload scanned copies of all your original documents. If the original documents are not in English or German, you have to add additional certified translations of your documents. A certified translation is a translation by a sworn translator.
All documents must be uploaded in one pdf file, preferably in the order described above and with a maximum size of 10 MB. Please note that we do not accept any paper-based application documents and that we do not process applications submitted by e-mail, as well as unassessable applications.
As soon as the admission committee comes to a final decision on your admission, you will again be immediately notified by e-mail. If you get an acceptance for the master’s course Computational Engineering you will be assigned to one of our personal tutors from the CompEng Support team, who will be your future contact person for any organizational questions (Visa, Accommodation, Health Insurance, etc) to make sure that you will have the best possible starting conditions at Ruhr-University Bochum. Please understand that in case your application is rejected, no further explanations will be given by the admission committee.
